 Prof. Dr. Syed Mohsin Raza

Brief Profile

Dr. Raza possesses a throughout first class academic career. He secured Second Position in B.Sc. Examinations, and First Position in Mk. Sc. (Physics) examination (1974) of the University of Balochistan, Quetta. He was awarded a Gold Medal for Distinction in M. Sc. (Physics) from Phillips Electrical Company,  Holland. He was then awarded a Merit/Quid-e-Azam scholarship by the Federal Ministry of Education, Islamabad to pursue higher studies abroad. He earned M.S. (Nuclear Engineering, 1978) and DIC (Mechanical Engineering, 1979) with Distinctions from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London. He then earned Ph.D (Condensed Matter Physics/Material Science) in 1981 from Brunel, University of West London. Since April 1975 he is  serving Department of Physics and Computer Science in December 1989 and Full Professor in December, 1990 at the age of 35 years. He also been engaged in teaching PGD courses of Computer Sciences since June, 1984.  He became meritorious professor (BPS-21) in 1998.


Professor  Raza has published over hundred and fifty research papers in Journals of international repute. He has participated in over twenty five national and international conferences held in Pakistan, Italy, Germany, France and in USA. He has produced six Ph.D’s and eight M. Phils from University of Balochistan on various problems of Physics and Engineering . AT present he has three Ph. D and one M. Phil laboratories comprising of Electrical resistivity/Thermoelectric power measurements, Magnet setup for susceptibility measurements, AC and DC Dielectric measurements for condensed matter materials and a nuclear setup for gamma ray spectroscopy and similar others.


Dr. Raza is a member of various professional bodies, and was elected as Council Member (1990), Pakistan Institute of Physics (Balochistan Chapter). He is an executive member of the American Physical Society (APS, since 1984), an associate member of the international Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP, Since 1984), an active member of the New York Academy of Sciences (Since 1984), a member of European Physical Society (EPS, since 1987) and a member of Third World Academy of Sciences (Since 1985). He has been the fellow of the Pakistan Institute of Physic s since 1997. He has also been a fellow of American Physical Society year 2000. His biography and achievements have been cited in 12th edition of Marquis Who’s who in the World, 1995-1996 (Reed Reference Publishing Company, America). He has been awarded a Marquis certificate of Recognition. His work on various problems of physics and engineering would indeed bring a good impact on socio-economic conditions of Pakistan. He is a competent scientist, educator, physicist and consultant engineer. His scientific accomplishments can be critically judged from a complete list of publication. He has also been awarded presidential award “ Lzaz-e-Fazeelat”, 1994 for producing quality research  in basic and engineering sciences. Recently, he has been awarded “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz”, 1999 in Science (Physics). He also earned “ Best Teacher Award” of Higher Education Commission, in the year 2000.
