CDWP Cleared 12 HEC Sponsored  Development Projects

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) in its meeting held on 21st October 2011  considered twelve (12) HEC sponsored development projects of the universities across the country and HEC Human Resource Development Scholarships. 07 revised projects 03 new projects were approval. Further, two mega scholarship umbrella schemes to be executed by HEC were recommended to ECNEC for approval. Summary of the approved / recommended 12 projects is as under:-

1)                   Revised Projects

07 revised project proposals belonging to IBA Karachi, Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro, UET Peshawar, UST Bannu, Frontier Women University, Peshawar and University of Malakand, Chakdara were approved. Focus of these revised projects was to complete the on-going development activities of Infrastructure Development, Faculty Development and Strengthening of Laboratories. List is given below:

1.                               Strengthening & Upgrading of Peshawar Campus of NWFP UET Peshawar (Revised)

2.                               Immediate Needs of University of Science & Technology, Bannu (Revised)

3.                               Development of University of Malakand, Chakdara (Revised)

4.                               Strengthening of IBA Karachi (Revised)

5.                              Strengthening & Development of Department of Civil Engineering, Software Engineering,    Institute of Science & Technology Development i/c Allied Services (Revised)

6.                            Strengthening & Development of Department of Bio-Medical Engineering, Institute of Environmental Engineering & Management, Communal Facilities for Students & Staff i/c Allied Services (Revised)

7.                              Establishment of Frontier Women University, Peshawar (Revised)

2.          New project Proposals

Three new project proposals for University of Peshawar, Lasbela and Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi were discussed and approved.  Focus of the projects is Infrastructure Development, Human Resource Development and Strengthening of Laboratories. Total cost of the new projects is Rs. 1.732 Billion. List of the new projects is given below:

1                      Strengthening of the University of Peshawar

2                           Development of Infrastructure of Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine   Sciences,      Uthal

3                                 Construction of Girls hostel at FJWU, Rawalpindi

3.         Umbrella HEC Scholarship Schemes

1                                 Master Leading to PhD Scholarship Program (Indigenous and Overseas) for the Students of      Balochistan (HEC) - An initiative of the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan Package

2                                 Indigenous PhD Fellowships for 5000 Scholars , HEC (Phase-II)

Two above projects were recommended to Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) for approval. One of these projects is exclusively for the students of Balochistan. This project will provide 600 MS leading to PhD scholarships (200 foreign and 400 local.

2nd HRD project is Phase-II of Indigenous 5000 PhD scholarships project. The scholarship will be awarded on merit and as per Federal Government Quota policy as already approved by the ECNEC in its meeting held on 29-07-2011, i.e.
