Government of Pakistan has received offer of fellowships (for senior advanced students wishing to pursue non-degree post-graduate studies for one year or less in Chinese universities and undergraduate studies) from Government of People’s Republic of China through Pakistan National Commission for UNESCO. Nominations from Pakistan will be routed through Higher Education Commission.

       v  Not more than 45 years of age,

v  Hold at least the equivalent of the Master’s Degree / above or the 16 years Bachelor’s Degree.

v  English proficiency is required.

v  Be in good health, both physically and mentally.

Sending Application Package:

1.       Download UNESCO/China Application Form. Fill the application form very neatly using the capital letters and make two (02) photocopies (1 original + 2 Photocopies are to be sent).

2.       Attach all the documents, as mentioned in the Terms & Conditions head, below. The originally notarized documents are to be attached with UNESCO/China application form only.

3.       Download HEC Application form. Fill the application form very neatly using the capital letters and attach the required documents.

4.       You are required to send four (04) file covers containing applications, Three (03) separate file covers containing UNESCO / China Application Form with all documents and One (01) separate file cover containing HEC Application Form with all documents.

5.       Attach proof of your employer permission (whether public or private), which is mandatory.

6.       Attach the payment receipt with HEC Application form only. All payments are to be made to HEC through HBL online facility. This facility is available in all branches of Habib Bank Ltd. A separate bank Account No. 17427900133401 is being maintained for the purpose. A Performa for depositing funds is available at the following URL www.hec.gov.pk/payment  Deposit an amount of Rs. 300/- (non-refundable), in favor of HEC, as described here. Attach portion of payment receipt (in original) along with application form, without which your application form will NOT be accepted / processed.

7.       Kindly note that HEC is the authorized agency who would send nomination from Pakistan, hence you should not send application directly to UNESCO. Last Date for receipt of application in HEC is 21-04-2011. Late received applications and forms not in proper file covers will NOT be entertained.

 Note: HEC is only facilitating in the processing of the said scholarship scheme. Therefore HEC has no financial liability in this regard.

Selection of Beneficiaries:

The Chinese authorities will select the most qualified candidates. The National Commissions of the selected fellows will be duly informed by UNESCO.

Candidates not informed of their selection by 31 August 2011 should consider that their applications have not been approved

Facilities offered by the Government of the People’s Republic of China

a)      A monthly living allowance of CNY 1.700 yuan for General Scholars and CNY 2.000 yuan for Senior Scholars to cover meals and pocket expenses;

b)      A one-time settlement subsidy of CNY 1000 yuan for those whose period of studies lasts up to one academic year, and CNY 1,500 yuan for those whose period of studies lasts over one academic year;

c)       Registration and tuition fees, fee for laboratory experiment, fee for internship; fee for basic/necessary learning materials*;

d)      Accommodation facilities (two students share one room);

e)      Fee for outpatient medical service for expenses generated in the institution’s hospital; Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan against diseases and accidents for International Students in China**; and,

f)       A one-time inter-city travel ticket (each for coming in and leaving China). A hard –seat train ticket (hard-berth train ticket for overnight trip) will be provided for new scholarship students traveling from the port of entry upon registration to the city where the admitting institution of Chinese language institution or preparatory education institution is located; students traveling from the Chinese language institution or preparatory education institution to the city where the university for major study is located; and students traveling from the city where the institution is located to the nearest port of departure upon graduation.

* Costs above the university’s arrangements should be self afforded.

** The students should bear a certain percentage of expenses. Compensation on the payment receipts may be asked from the insurance company for the expenses for serious diseases or from accidental injury (if hospitalized). 

Facilities offered by UNESCO:

a)      International travel to and from China;

b)      Monthly allowance of US$150 to be paid in local currency (Chinese RMB) during their stay in China, in addition to the living allowance granted by the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

Important : No allowance to finance or lodge married couples or family members can be made.

NOTE : It is the National authorities' responsibility to ensure that all candidates are duly informed of all the above-mentioned conditions prior to the submission of applications for these fellowships.

Documents to be attached with the application forms in each file cover:

1.       Three (03) recent ID photographs, to be attached with each application form;

2.       Notarized photocopies of diplomas and certificates, and school-certified transcripts of complete academic records (translated in English when applicable) in triplicate;

3.       Copy of the university's invitation letter, for those students who have been admitted in advance by a Chinese university, in triplicate;

4.       Two letters of recommendation (in English) by professors or associate professors familiar with the work of the candidate, in triplicate;

5.       A research proposal containing no less than 400 words (in English) of the post-graduate study to be undertaken during the candidate’s stay in China, in triplicate;

6.       Foreigner Physical Examination form (attach with UNESCO Application Form) to be completed around end of March 2011 or in April 2011 in triplicate; and,

7.      English language proficiency certificate (attach with UNESCO Application Form), in triplicate.
