This Program is closed for new intake

The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) in its meeting held on 7th January, 2004 approved the project titled “Overseas Scholarship Scheme for PhD in Selected Fields “ (OS-1) at Capital Cost of Rs.4, 275.805 Million with execution period of eight years.

This project targets an intake of 800 candidates for PhDs for high ranking Universities of Asian and European countries. Under the scheme 687 scholars in phases proceeded abroad for MS/M. Phil leading to PhD programs or for direct PhD.  

This scholarship scheme is the first ever mega project of PhD scholarships launched by HEC. For the successful execution of the program, HEC signed the Memorandums of Understandings (MoUs) with various educational agencies and universities of the advanced countries. The selection process was made transparent while these agencies in the foreign countries also helped HEC in the selection of suitable candidates for the universities of their respective countries. These partner agencies are also providing services to monitor the progress of the scholars in coordination with the academic advisors and the foreign student offices at the host universities.   

Against the target of eight hundred, 687 scholars proceeded to high ranking Universities of Asian, European and other countries such as Australia, Canada, USA, UK, France, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, China, Austria and New Zealand.
