HEC Scholarship for MS (Engineering) In South Korean Universities /Industry
Introduction

The Scheme envisages Master level training of Pakistani candidates in advanced Engineering and Technological fields at South Korean Universities:

Strategic Objectives:

This PSDP funded project aims at producing high-tech engineering manpower to work on cutting edge technologies in the emerging Industrial sector of Pakistan. These opportunities are offered to graduate engineers, meeting specific requirements of the program.

This project will provide opportunities to young talented Engineers for research work at advanced research labs and reputed universities of South Korea and an opportunity of interaction with foreign engineers working at frontiers of knowledge. It will further encourage international cooperation in Engineering and Technology whereby, scholars will get an opportunity to work in Korean labs on real life projects.

The HEC scholars sponsored and successfully trained through this project, will have gained ample practical knowledge, to replicate in the Industrial sector of Pakistan. The ultimate objective is to assimilate, absorb and transfer knowledge pertaining to promising technologies to get high-tech products and achieve rapid economic progress.


Current Status:

The HEC scholars of Batch I, II, III and IV have successfully completed their graduation and their degrees were conferred to them, in South Korea as well as in Pakistan. In Pakistan, degrees were conferred through two specially arranged Convocation Ceremonies in HEC,Islamabad, in the year 2009 and 2010. The scholars of Batch V have also successfully completed their graduation and their degrees are expected to be awarded soon.

Objectives

The Scheme envisages Master level training of Pakistani candidates in advanced Engineering and Technological fields at South Korean Universities. The objectives of the scheme are:

  1. To create a critical mass of highly qualified Engineering Manpower in high-tech fields. 
  2. To build up the capacity of Universities/Industries in Pakistan, by training manpower in priority Engineering and Technological fields.                                         
  3. To facilitate assimilation, absorption and transfer of important and promising technologies to get high-tech products and achieve rapid economic progress.  
  4. To provide opportunities to young talented Engineers for research work at  advanced research labs and reputed universities abroad and interaction with foreign engineers working at frontiers of knowledge.  
  5. To encourage international cooperation in Engineering and Technology whereby, scholars will get an opportunity to work in Korean Labs on real life projects.

Answer:                        Read Eligibility Criteria very carefully. You have to meet all of them, Download application Form, Read and Fill eligibility assessment Form given below (put a ü where applicable), you can evaluate, decide and judge your eligibility yourself.

b. All Applicants have to fulfill “ALL THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA” as given above and there are no two interpretations of the criteria.   

 Question No. 2:            Please Elaborate about the Scholarship Stipend?

Answer:                        The Scholarships covers, tuition fee, return airfare (once in two years), monthly stipend etc, as per Govt approved rates. Any extra amount required by the scholar during the course of his studies, will have to be born by the student him/herself. HEC does not offer 100% financial support to the scholars which could cover all expenses incurred during MS-Engineering studies

Question No. 3:            Will there be a separate test held for Korean Scholarships?

Answer:                        No separate test will be held. Test scores obtained in any of the below mentioned GAT tests organized by NTS, exclusively for HEC scholarships, dated:

·          7th January, 2007

·          8th April 2007

·          8th July 2007,

·          7th October, 2007

·          7th January, 2008

·          6th April 2008 and

·          6th July 2008

are valid. Please attach copy of result card with application form.

Question No.4: How should I pay for the Fee of Rs. 300/- bank draft/ pay order/online?

Answer:                        All kinds of money is to be deposited on behalf of HEC through HBL online facility. This facility is available in all branches of Habib Bank Ltd. A separate bank Account No. 01120050011901 is being maintained for the purpose. A Proforma for depositing funds is available at the following Link deposit an amount of Rs. 300/- (non-refundable), in favor of HEC, as described here. Attach portion of payment receipt along with application form, with out which your application form will NOT be accepted / processed. 

Question No. 5:            Can I send Bank Draft of any Bank Branch?

Answer:                        No, you can send the application processing fee, through online payment facility only.

Question No.6: What is last date for submitting the application form?

Answer:                        23-07-2008. (Form submitted late, will not be accepted).

Question No.7:             I am already availing HEC Scholarship for PhD studies. Am I eligible to apply in this Scholarship scheme?

Answer:                        NO.

Question No.8:             I am already availing Foreign Scholarship for studies, from an agency, other than HEC. Am I eligible to apply in HEC Scholarship scheme?

Answer:                        You may apply, but if selected will have to give up that source of funding.

Question No.9:             What will be the medium of Education in Australia? 

Answer:                        English.

Question No.10:           If I am offered scholarship, can I come back to Pakistan during studies, for a few days brief visit?

Answer:                        It is up to you. You will have to return back for completion of studies and travel expenses on these brief visits will be borne by your self. 

Question No.11:           If I am selected, will I be required to submit the undertaking form, bond agreement and other related documents, to serve in Pakistan?

Answer:                        YES.

Question No.12:           Either I should take leave from employer before selection or afterwards?

Answer:                        When you are selected for the Scholarship you will have to obtain study leave from your employer and provide documentary evidence.

Question No.13:           I am a Government servant. Can I change job after successful completion of my studies under this scholarship program?

 Answer:                       You have to decide according to the Government regulations. However after successful completion of studies you will have to return back to Pakistan to serve the country.

Question No.14:           I am a Government Servant. Do I need to forward my application through my employer?

Answer:                        At this stage, not mandatory, but if you are short listed then you are required to provide NOC from your employer, for further processing.

Question No.15:           Is it mandatory to return to Pakistan, after completion of studies?

Answer:                        YES.

Question No.16:           I have 45% marks in SSC (or HSC). Am I eligible?

Answer:                        NO.

Question No.17:           I have done BCS (Hons), which is three and half year degree course after Intermediate.  Am I eligible?

Answer:                        No. Applicants must have 16 years of education.

Question No.18:           Can I send hand written application form?

Answer:                        No. Download the application form and type it using Microsoft Word and then obtain a print out.

Question No.19:           I was born on 22nd July, 1973, am I eligible to apply?

Answer:                        No. You are overage, by one day.

Question No.20:           I am jobless, can I apply?

Answer:                        The scholarships offer is open to all type of applicants, employed as well as un-employed.

Question No.21:           My final percentage in BE is 59.9%, am I eligible to apply?

Answer:                        No. Please do not round-off percentages, while evaluating basic eligibility criteria.

Question No.21:           For verification of BE / BSc (Engg) Degree and Transcript, instead of getting attestation from A&A Division HEC, can I obtain attestation from a Gazetted officers ONLY?

Answer:                        No Degree and Transcript have to be Attested by A&A Division HEC, with out which application form will NOT be accepted.
