HEC Doubled Scholarships for Balochistan & FATA for year 2009-2010
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has doubled the allocated scholarships for postgraduate students of Balochistan and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), under Commission’s Programme ‘Provision of Higher Education Opportunities for Students of Balochistan and FATA’.
The decision was taken in a meeting of Project Steering Committee on Monday 16th Nov 2009, presided over by Dr. Sohail Naqvi, Executive Director, HEC who is also Chairman of the Committee. The meeting was held for selection of 60 scholarship awardees for two-year postgraduate programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Naqvi proposed to the Committee members to increase the scholarship seats for students of these underprivileged areas. He said that there is a lot of potential and talent in students of Balochistan and FATA. He told the gathering that HEC has also arranged foundation courses for these students to enhance their analytical skills.
The Project Steering Committee unanimously approved 120 scholarships for Postgraduate Programme in Batch-II Intake for the year 2009-10. The final result of 120 awardees has also been uploaded on HEC website http://www.hec.gov.pk/Balochistan-FATA.
It is pertinent to mention here that HEC has already requested all Vice Chancellors of public sector universities to increase five percent seats for students of Balochistan and FATA and the awardees will be admitted against these reserved seats.
