About the Member Academic, Research & Development
The Member Academics of the Higher Education Commission is Professor Dr Altaf Ali G. Shaikh. With an MSc in Electronics from the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, he completed an MSc in Nuclear Physics and PhD in Semi Comductor Physics from the George August University in Goettingen, Germany. With over 31 years of teaching, research and administrative service experience to his credit, Dr Shaikh has served as a faculty member and Professor at the University of Sindh, and Scientific Assistant at the George August University in Germany. Following his career as an academic, Dr Shaikh served as Secretary of the Board of Intermediate Secondary Education, Karachi (1990-1992) and Secretary Board of Secondary Education, Karachi (1992-1996). He joined the former University Grants Commission as Director General of Administration in 1996 and was absorbed into the organization in 1998. Whilst in the UGC, he was assigned the additional charge of the Chairman, Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education by the Ministry of Education, and was later appointed to the post. Since his return to the UGC in 2000, he has served in significant posts including the Director General of Administration, Director General of Curriculum, Advisor Curriculum and Training, and Advisor Human Resource Development. |
