Role of Office
The Member (Operations & Planning) of the HEC is assigned with the role of identifying and developing strategic plans for higher education reform, and ensuring the proper management and monitoring, utilization of funds, and physical progress of the programs of the Commission. The Member O&P also works closely with universities in the formulation of short as well as long-term development projects, and represents the Commission in various meetings of the Government (DDWP, CDWP, ECNEC and CCC) for the approval of schemes. In this role the Member O&P formulates, implements and monitors plans for the development of universities and prepares Public Sector Development Plans (PSDPs) for the procurement and disbursement of development funds. In addition, the Member O&P manages the operations and finances of the HEC Secretariat.
About the Member Operation & Planning
The Member (O&P) of the Higher Education Commission is Professor Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, who was appointed to the post in January 2005. An MSc graduate from the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, he went on to complete an MBA and PhD from the University of California, Riverside. With a distinguished career as an academic and administrator in various universities in Pakistani universities, prior to joining the Commission Dr Ahmed served as the Director of the Wah Campus of the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, where he also served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Management Sciences. |
