A Transformation Towards Becoming Smart UniversitiesA Transformation Towards Becoming Smart Universities<p style="line-height:20px;">​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Pakistan Qualification Framework is considered as mechanism for classification of the qualifications on the basis of the learning outcomes i.e. skill, competence, knowledge. It is levels based and outcomes focused. Pakistan Qualification Framework (PQF) encompasses​​. </p><p style="line-height:20px;">In FY 2013-14, 100,000 laptops will be procured and distributed among students as per defined criteria. This has been approved by the Government of Pakistan, and work is underway for procurement and distribution. This document gives guidelines on the procedures which shall be followed as Distribution strategy during the course of project. The document is also meant to maintain the transparency and make the eligibility criteria publically available to both students and the higher education institutes in order to avoid any confusion or ambiguity in the policy and procedure which shall be followed as per the decisions of project Steering Committee.</p><p style="line-height:20px;"> </p><span style="line-height:20px;">On the directives of the Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Government of Pakistan has initiated a national program for distribution of laptops to young and bright students studying in public sector higher education institutes (HEIs) across the country and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The scheme is part of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programs for FY2013-14. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan is the executing agency responsible for developing criteria, mechanism, modalities and a road map for procurement and distribution of laptops under this scheme. </span><p style="line-height:20px;"> </p><p style="line-height:20px;"> </p><span style="line-height:20px;">In FY 2013-14, 100,000 laptops will be procured and distributed among students as per defined criteria. Smart EducationSmart EducationSmart Education is a conce​pt around transformation of conventional way of pedagogy to contemporary methods using information and communication technologies. The concept has been realized as to leverage on and complement the recent initiative of Government of Pakistan on the directives of the Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan for the award of laptop computers amongst the talented students. Accordingly, half a million (i.e. 500,000) laptop computers are being awarded amongst the students. 2-in-1 detachable laptop computers are being distributed amongst the students. These 2-in-1 detachable laptop computers will help students in their learning activities within and outside the classrooms through the Touch-screen/ Tablet feature of these devices. <div><br><div>Moreover, for ubiquitous computing, Higher Education Commission has taken the initiative of Smart Campuses under which blanket WiFi coverage is being provided as to complement the initiative of Smart Bags, i.e. Laptop (2-in-1 detachable) computers. Following this transformational approach, the natural next step is the introduction of Smart Classrooms at each university. <br><span style="color:inherit;line-height:1.429;background-color:transparent;"><br></span></div><div><span style="color:inherit;line-height:1.429;background-color:transparent;">The Smart Classrooms strategy is a learning initiative that assists educators to make ICT integral to learning. The strategy is about engaging the digital generation, improving individualized learning opportunities, sparking innovation in learning, enhancing teachers’ digital pedagogy and getting the best from the ICT investments.
