Unified Communication - Technologies Convergence
Higher Education Commission is playing major role in acting as Socio-Economic Development Engine. In this regard, IT-Division is also playing its role in enhancing daily life office routine by providing the fast paced technologies to its employees. In the past recent years, IT-Division has equipped HEC with latest trends and technologies for communication including Video Conferencing, IP-Telephony, Email system etc., but, now time has come for the convergence of these technologies into a consolidated consortium.

IT Division has provided a consolidated solution by deploying the Office Communication Server in HEC, which basically plays the role of central Hub for Video Conferencing, IP-telephony and Office Communicator.
The Unified Communication is now officially launched in HEC on October 30, 2009 with initiating the capacity building program for Senior Management Committee of HEC. The Technical Specialist, Microsoft Pakistan provided the short training to Senior Management Committee regarding the Unified Communications. During the demonstration, Senior Management showed keen interest in using and adopting the latest technology for the ease of their lives.
Office Communication Server (OCS) provides key benefits in layered approach. Since, it is software solution, so does not involve hardware cost for communication, just as required in typical voice communication. Further, it acts as a telephone exchange; therefore, no further infrastructure for exchange is required. Thus, HEC has achieved its major goal regarding convergence of various technologies and brought them on single platform. Office communication has been made easier with Microsoft Office Communicator 2007, with the outreach to Email, Voicemail, Calendar, telephone, data sharing, audio conference and video conference.
