HEC Research Travel GrantHEC Research Travel Grant<font color="#000000" face="Times New Roman" size="3"> </font><p style="margin:0in 0in 0pt;text-align:justify;line-height:120%;"><span style="line-height:120%;font-family:"cambria",serif;font-size:12pt;"><font color="#000000"></font></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Scientific seminars, conferences and symposia act as a welcome source of motivation and information for the academic and scientific communities. These events provide tremendous opportunity to exchange the scientific outcomes of knowledge creation and problem solving. Scientific conferences are ideal places to find out what's advanced in specific field, observe the various debates and controversies under way, meet interesting people, make contacts for the future, and, in general, interact with professionals in their fields. Beyond knowing inspiring stories, the participants see how others solved problems similar, which may help move them past the roadblock in their own research. The contacts developed in these events may result in a new collaboration.  It's always amusing to put the names one has read on papers for years with actual faces at scientific conferences.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Higher Education Commission's Travel Grant Program aims at providing the opportunity to the academic and scientific communities to boost their research activities in the public and private sector universities and degree awarding institutes of Pakistan. Under this program, faculty and Ph.D. scholars are extended financial assistance for presentation of their research papers at national or international forums, which facilitates the interaction with skilled academia and researchers in the relevant field. Start-Up Research Grant ProgramStart-Up Research Grant Program<p style="text-align:justify;">Start-Up Research Grant Program (SRGP) is designed to assist the fresh PhD holders to establish research facilities upon joining higher education institutions as faculty members. The program enables the newly appointed PhD faculty to setup basic research infrastructure to start research activities without delay. The program helps to engage both the faculty and students in research through provision of financial assistance and basic lab/experimental facilities. </p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Important: </strong></p><ul style="text-align:justify;"><li>New Policy has been implemented from 1st December 2015. No new application received on old format will be entertained. </li><li>Principal Investigator has only one chance to apply for the SRGP & incomplete application will not be entertained. </li><li>Faculty Members eligible to apply under SRGP are: </li></ul><ul style="text-align:justify;"><li>Fresh PhD degree holder joining on IPFP, TTS, BPS or long term regular contract (minimum for a period of one year) while visiting faculty is not eligible to apply under SRGP. </li><li>Joining Public Sector University/Institution or Private Sector University /Institution eligible for Public Funding (list is available on website). </li><li>A fresh PhD degree holder means a doctor having PhD degree completed within two years from the date of application for SRGP.</li></ul><p style="text-align:justify;">Experienced faculty members/researcher or Faculty of Private Institutions are not eligible for Government funding as well as visiting or short term faculty are not eligible for SRGP.</p>13-07-2016 11:12:41<img alt="" src="/english/PublishingImages/ThematicImages/HEC%20ICON-12.png" width="272" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /> Research Grant Program
Textbook & Monograph Writing SchemeTextbook & Monograph Writing Scheme<p>​​<span style="text-align:justify;color:inherit;background-color:transparent;">​​​​​I</span><span style="text-align:justify;color:inherit;background-color:transparent;">ntroduction</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The Textbook and Monograph Writing Scheme was created by the Higher Education Commission for the specific purpose of developing high quality literature and textbooks to support academic materials in the higher education sector. Master Trainers Faculty Development ProgramMaster Trainers Faculty Development Program<p><strong>There are two Master Trainer Faculty Development Programs:</strong></p><ol><li>Master Trainer Faculty Professional Development Program</li><li>Training Effectiveness Program for MT-FPDP Alumni at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand</li></ol><p><strong></strong> </p><p><strong>MASTER TRAINERS-FACULTY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM:</strong></p><p>This program is up to 8 weeks long and is a fully sponsored national in-service residential Master Trainer's professional teaching certificate program. It is held at LID Islamabad and is designed for Higher Education teaching faculty to develop their research and professional skills.</p><p> </p><p>Twenty-one such batches of MT-FPDP have been organized so far by the Learning Innovation Division. Faculty members of different public and HEC-funded private sector universities received professional certification for teaching, research, and management skills. Master Trainers lead a similar training in their respective institutions. </p><p> </p><p>To date, 783 HEI faculty members have received this training and are serving as Master Trainers in their respective institutions. The 28<sup>th </sup>Batch will be inaugurated in the month of July 2016.</p><p> </p><p><strong>TRAINING EFFECTIVENESS PROGRAM FOR MT-FPDP ALUMNI AT THE ASIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, THAILAND:</strong></p><p>This is an exclusive three-week international program meant as a follow-up training for the best performing alumni of the Master Trainer Faculty Professional Development Program (MT-FPDP). The program aims to further expose them to international academic practices and research, and to build their capacity to run the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Centers at their universities.</p><p> </p><p>This training program is conducted at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. Patent Support ProgramPatent Support Program<p style="text-align:justify;">A patent is an exclusive right given to an inventor by a country which helps to exclude others from making, using or selling his or her invention in that country during the life of the patent. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">The HEC has developed a programme<strong> </strong>which allows for submission of ideas which describes the potential invention for evaluation for patentability. <span style="color:inherit;background-color:transparent;">In case an invention is determined to be patentable, the inventor will be encouraged to file at Intellectual Property Office Pakistan and will also be supported to file for an international patent.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">It is certified that the submission will remain completely confidential and no step will be taken without the consent of the inventors.</p><p><strong>Objectives</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">By securing a patent in a foreign country serves two purposes. First, it allows institution and the country to benefit economically from efforts of inventors/scientists. Second, mankind benefits from the patent if a useful application or a product results from the invention of researchers/scientists/inventors.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">All over the world scientists make significant contributions to economic growth through their inventions and HEC would like Pakistani inventors/scientists to make special efforts to make such contributions.​</p><p><strong>Eligibility Criteria</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Pakistani scientists/researchers from Public/Private Universities/Institutions and Public R&D organizations of Pakistan, who have already filed their patents in the Intellectual Property Organisation (IPO), may apply for the funding of their patent-able research/invention.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><br></p>16-08-2016 04:28:14<img alt="" src="/english/PublishingImages/ThematicImages/HEC%20ICON-11.png" style="BORDER:0px solid;" />
University Industry Technological Support ProgramUniversity Industry Technological Support Program<p style="text-align:justify;">The University Industry Technology Support Program (UITSP) of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) is an important step towards fostering a high-level of tangible cooperation between academia and industry. This cooperation is to capitalize on emerging international demands for products and processes in discrete and continuous manufacturing that shall contribute to the national economy. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">This program is focused on the industrial sectors where the country is already a major contributor to world trade. It focuses on harnessing the potential of highly competitive sectors for international trade which needs development both for local and international consumption. The focused sector wise identification of products and processes in discrete and continuous, as well as import and export, trends is available from the public domain local and international statistical data.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The UITSP proposes that researchers, preferably with PhD degrees and affiliation with international professional bodies, collaborate with the local industry involved in discrete and continuous manufacturing for tangible results in terms of improvement of product and processes leading to decreased import of raw material and increased export of the finished product and processes. The products and processes needing improvement should ideally be in priority areas relevant to national needs for socio-economic development of the country.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The UITSP is awarded on competitive merit by the HEC for high-level and promising industrial research projects of direct relevance to current needs of the industry to be carried out in Pakistan by creative scientists of public-sector universities and degree-awarding institutions in collaboration with professionals from the local industry. The purpose of these grants is to promote scientific research in applied sciences in the country and to strengthen the indigenous capacity for industrial competition in the world market.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The research grant will be provided for a maximum period of two years with a budget of up to Rs. 6 million.</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Objectives</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">The increased globalization of trade, formulation of policies and procedures to streamline the globalization trend and application of international standards by national, international and professional organizations has increased the trade competitiveness and thus has opened new avenues for worldwide industrial sector. To avail these new opportunities, the local industry and the universities at home shall be competitive and compliant with the international standards. The result of this collaboration exercise between industry and academia should be tangible and should reflect in the Gross National Product of the country. Generally, applied sciences section of the academia and discrete and continuous manufacturing sector of the industry needs high level of cooperation to improve products and processes in order to compete worldwide. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">UITSP of the Higher Education Commission is an important step towards fostering high level of tangible cooperation between academia and industry. HEC Distinguished National ProfessorsHEC Distinguished National Professors<p style="text-align:justify;">The Higher Education Commission has launched an "HEC Distinguished National Professors"   program to use the services of outstanding senior Professors and Scientists in Universities and R&D Organizations and utilize their services in national organizations.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The selected HEC National Professor shall be engaged in teaching and research in public sector institutions. The HEC distinguished National Professor will be entitled to fixed emoluments salary of Rs.150,000/- per month @ Rs. 100000/- (for personal expense) and Rs. 50,000/- (Research grant/Institutional share). HEC Outstanding Research AwardsHEC Outstanding Research Awards<p style="text-align:justify;">The HEC Outstanding Research Awards program aims to recognize and reward the achievements of Pakistani researchers/scholars for research, innovation and publication in all fields of study. Pakistan Program for Collaborative ResearchPakistan Program for Collaborative Research<p style="text-align:justify;">Pakistan Programme for Collaborative Research allows for university faculty working in Pakistan to go abroad or for researchers from technological advanced countries to come to Pakistan. Preference is given to faculty members visiting foreign institutions that have recognized excellence in the relevant research area. The visits can last between one to four weeks but can be extended to more than four months in case of sabbaticals. The visits are limited to one person (the visiting fellow) going to one institute/department in the host institution. The visiting fellow and a person from the host institution (the host) are co-applicants of the proposal. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">The main aim of this funding, which is open to all fields of research, is to initiate or to consolidate international collaborations. To reach this aim, short research activity between the host institution and the visiting fellow should be carried out during the stay. </p><p>Preference will be given to activities that will support:</p><ol style="text-align:justify;"><li>Submission of papers to peer-reviewed scientific journals (co-authored by the visiting fellow and the host). The paper must be an effort of the joint research work being carried out by the applicants. </li><li>Preparation of joint research proposals to be submitted to funding bodies. There must be previous communication with the applicant on the matter.</li><li>Training for lab techniques in Pakistan for postgraduate students. </li><li>Scientific or academic sabbatical in Pakistani universities.</li><li>Curriculum review by the Pakistani universities and/or HEC.</li><li>Academic consultancy to review of processes and procedures in the universities and/or HEC.</li></ol><p style="text-align:justify;">The aim is to have an exchange of knowledge that is beneficial to both co-applicants.
