In the recent decade there has been seen high volume of women joining the academia especially the higher education institutions (HEIs) in the public and private domain, however, this increase in number of female faculty/administrators is not reflected proportionally in leadership positions. To address this issue and gap, the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE) has formulated a 60 credit hours course work with the title “Capacity Building Program for Emerging Women Leaders". Equity, diversity, and inclusivity lie at the center of progress, and the higher education sector is no exception. Capacity building of women in leadership roles as well as those at the cusp of leadership is one of the ways to ensure equal opportunities for women in the higher education sector. To this end the framework of the program is constructed over the issues of equity and inclusion within three concentric domains of self, national, and global.
Leadership being a contested and nebulous concept. This program focuses on catering the capacity building and leadership needs of the emerging women leaders in the academic sphere. For this purpose, the women leaders above BPS-17 will considered. Which may include lecturers, assistant, associate, and full professors. It also includes senior academic management positions such as heads of departments, deans, provost/vice provost, vice chancellors and registrars.
