Pakistan Education & Research Network (PERN) is a primary member of Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN) and collaborates with the APAN members and neighboring NRENs for the promotion of Research & Education. The Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN) corporation was formed in 1997 has now become a key driver in promoting and facilitating network-enabled research and education activities in the Asia Pacific.APAN members include entities representing research and education network interests in the countries/economies of Asia and Oceania.The APAN Meetings are done to co-ordinate and promote network technology developments and advances in network-based applications and services across the Asia-Pacific region. APAN, has led to significant improvements in educational outcomes by providing the foundation for a knowledge-based economy; allows educators and students to share knowledge and to discover and learn remotely; enhances the ability of all member economies to participate in global collaborative innovation through unprecedented access to digital resources, instrumentation and expertise for education, research and societal benefit; provides access to scarce or expensive educational and research resources around the Asia Pacific region and across the globe; leads to the saving and improvement of lives and property as a result of implementing advanced communications that support the well-being of the populations; and catalyze and stimulate the information economy by demonstrating new network enabled services, by acting as an incubator for technology transfer to industry, and as a springboard for innovation.
