The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has been setting standards and guidelines by establishing inter-alia academic policies, frameworks for curricula, learning outcomes and assessment methodologies by taking into account societal needs, technological advancements, and global trends for Pakistani varsities that have shaped the higher educational landscape of the country over time.
As the undergraduate education serves as a critical foundation for individuals' personal growth, intellectual development and future career prospects, HEC has developed a comprehensive policy encompassing minimum standards to regulate the undergraduate education in Pakistan. The policy is developed in consultation with universities and accreditation councils with an objective to shape the future of Pakistani youth and society by effectively imparting subject knowledge, fostering critical thinking, and developing skills necessary for personal and professional growth.
All Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are required to adopt the “Undergraduate Education Policy (V 1.1)" policy through their statutory bodies and implement the same with effect from Fall 2023.
