In Pakistan, Layyah is one of the areas which are rich in human capital and have the highest literacy rate among the districts of the Southern Punjab. To shape up this potential, sub-campus of Bahauddin Zakariya University was established in 2009 at Layyah by the Govt. of the Punjab. Recently, the Govt. of the Punjab through its Provincial Assembly passed the Act of The University of Layyah in 2022 by updating Sub-Campus of Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan to an independent university in the name of The University of Layyah.
