The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is an autonomous institution established by the Government of Pakistan under Ordinance No. LIII of 2002 and is responsible for the evaluation, improvement, and promotion of higher education, research and development in the country.
The National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE) serves as the national hub for capacity building and continuous professional development of faculty members, academic leaders, higher education institution (HEI) management staff, to improve the quality of teaching, research and academic governance of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Pakistan.
The National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE) has planned to launch a four-week National outreach Program for Faculty (Tier-I for Lecturers/Assistant Professors) at the university premises. The program is intended for early career faculty of Public Sector universities. It is a four-week learning program to accelerate the transfer of essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes in three dimensions of a successful career as a faculty member: (1) Teaching & Learning (2) Applied Research and (3) Professional Practice.
Through interactive sessions, practical activities, and expert facilitation, the program aims to equip participants with the competencies necessary to excel as effective educators, productive researchers, and responsible professionals in higher education.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Faculty Development
Faculty development is essential for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in higher education settings. By improving the capabilities and effectiveness of university faculty, institutions can better contribute to multiple SDGs. Faculty development aligns with and supports following SDGs:
- SDG 4: Quality Education – Enhancing teaching methods and promoting lifelong learning.
- SDG 5: Gender Equality – Encouraging equitable participation and leadership in academia.
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth – Bolstering employability and fostering innovation.

By investing in faculty development, educational institutions can significantly advance the SDGs, ensuring quality education for all and fostering innovation, and promote sustainable development across various sectors
Objectives
- Enhance andragogical skills, research capabilities, and professional competencies
- Promote inclusive faculty development by reaching universities at the doorstep including remote and underserved regions
- Equip faculty with tools for student engagement, academic planning, and technology integration
Program Outcomes
- Strengthen andragogical competencies, research capabilities, and professional skills essential for effective teaching and academic leadership.
- Contribute to inclusive faculty development initiatives by extending quality academic practices to universities.
- Apply practical tools and innovative strategies for enhanced student engagement, effective academic planning, and meaningful integration of educational technologies
Selection Criteria for Participants
Following would be the selection criteria for the participants of the training:
- Nominees must be permanent, full-time regular employees (Lecturer/ Assistant Professor) of a public sector university.
- The maximum age limit is 40 years.
- Nominees must not have attended any previous faculty training by HEC.
Certification
The certificate will be jointly awarded by the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), HEC, Islamabad, and the host university. It will be awarded to participants who have achieved a minimum of 90% attendance in all sessions and have successfully completed the training.
