National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE) is continuously developing capacity building programs for the faculty and staff of higher education institutes (HEIs) in Pakistan. These programs are broadly focused on three key areas:
Faculty Development Programs:
NAHE will provide multifaceted courses, workshops, certifications and degrees for HE faculty and staff at different stages of their careers. Whether general, need-based or customised, these offerings will address teaching practice, research methodology, administrative and leadership skills, educational management, as well as socio-culturally-/linguistically-specific topics and conventional professional development domains within the ambit of HE. These would be offered to early, mid-career and senior faculty in HEIs and upon demand, in undergraduate colleges.
The teaching effectiveness department, through its capacity-building programs for early, mid and senior faculty, will create a world class, intensive and rigorous programmes leading to internationally recognised 'NAHE Fellows' who will serve as NAHE's extension (spider web) throughout the HEIs in the country. The Fellowship programme will inspire potential Fellows to aspire for the Fellowship by carefully defining the incentives – or 'what's in it for me (WIIFM)' – for the Fellows. We hope that the positive evidence-based impact generated by NAHE Fellowships will lead to it becoming one of the benchmarks for career progression and the sign of a high quality academic.
A yearly calendar of programs will be issued and widely disseminated, national, regionally and internationally.
The Fellowship programmes will consist of (but not be confined to) the following:
- Capacity Building Faculty Fellowships (early, mid-career, and senior): National
|
- Capacity Building Faculty Fellowships (early, mid-career, and senior): Regional
|
- Capacity Building for Academic Faculty: Bespoke (including doctoral supervision, research methodology, grant writing, to name a few)
|
- NAHE Fellowship Programmes for Women's Academic Leadership
|
- Research and Research Management
Conducting and promoting research on higher education will be an integral aspect of all NAHE's activities so that it can function as a dynamic and reflexive institution. This, in turn, will allow it to address the need to set benchmarks for quality across different spheres of academics and HEIs through evidence-based interventions and programmes.
- Academic Governance, Leadership, and Financial Management
NAHE will support the establishment of centres or programmes focusing on capacity building of faculty and management of HEIs by building strategic and sustainable partnerships with regional and international HEIs. These connections will also strengthen educational technology capabilities, develop strong alumni networks and facilitate the formation and support of communities of practice for ongoing engagement and improvement.
Programmes will be designed and offered to senior, mid-level and junior staff at HEIs, undergraduate colleges and HEC. Some categories of participants may include: Rectors, Vice Chancellors, Treasurers, Directors of Planning and Development, Registrars, Faculty Deans, Heads of Departments, members of Departments of Finance and Human Resources. Based on its expertise and experience, this department may also design impactful courses for other government training institutions.
