Q. 1 What is the General eligibility criteria for scholarship?

Those who satisfy all the following requirements are eligible to apply

  1. Pakistani citizen/ AJK Nationals
  2. Minimum 4 years bachelor's degree (4 Years B.S/B.Sc./B. E etc.) – 16 years of formal education.
  3. Maximum two 2nd Divisions and no 3rd Division in entire academic career. However, for Category I&II (QS 50 & 300) scholarship, only one 2nd division is acceptable.
  4. Maximum age shall not exceed 35 years on the closing date of' call for scholarship' application.

Q. 2 What is the maximum age limit?

Maximum age on the closing date of advertisement is 35 years. However, in case of regular faculty members of Public Sector Universities/Govt Colleges and researchers of R & D organization, maximum age is 40 years.

Q 3 I am a Lecturer in Govt Degree College. Am I eligible for age relaxation?

Yes. Age relaxation is available to Regular faculty members of Public Sector Universities/ Govt Colleges and regular researchers of approved R& D organizations

Q. 4 I wish to apply to US – Pak Knowledge Corridor for PhD scholarship. Do I need a master's degree to apply?

Not usually. A four years undergraduate degree (BS/B.Sc./B.E/Equivalent) (16 years of formal education) is acceptable. Most of the Graduate Schools of many US Universities accept 4 years bachelor's degree for PhD. Program, with some exceptions.

Q. 5 What are the different categories of Ph.D. scholarship under US – Pak Knowledge Corridor?

From the point of view of financial support, scholarship award is divided in two (2) main categories.

  1. Category – I (Admission in top 50 QS World Ranked US University)
  2. Category – II (Admission in top 300 QS World Ranked US University)
  3. Category – III (Admission along with complete tuition waiver in designated US University)

Q. 6 What is offered, in financial terms, against each category of scholarship?

Category I – Scholarship (Admission in top 50 QS World Ranked US University)

*Fully funded (Except stipend and Health Insurance which is at par with Category -II. Initial Settlement allowance is not offered) 

*subject to approval

Category II – Scholarship (Admission in top 300 QS World Ranked US University)

  1. Stipend/ Living Expenses                    USD 19,200/- Per Annum
  2. Health Insurance                                  USD 2,000/- Per Annum (As per actual)
  3. Tuition and Fee                       (Up to)  USD 12,000/- Per Annum
  4. Return Air Ticket                                   PKR 250,000/- Per Annum (Once in scholarship tenure)

Category III – Scholarship (Admission in designated US University along with tuition waiver)

  1. Initial Settlement                                  USD 5,000/- (Once in entire period of scholarship)
  2. Stipend/ Living Expenses                    USD 19,200/- Per Annum
  3. Health Insurance                                  USD 2,000/- Per Annum (As per actual)
  4. Return Air Ticket                                   PKR 250,000/- (Once in scholarship tenure)

Q. 7 What are the specific eligibility criteria for each category of scholarship?

Category -I (Admission in top 50 QS Ranked US University)

  1. Satisfy general eligibility criteria
  2. Secure admission in top 50 QS Ranked US University
  3. GRE – General or HAT Score (Minimum 60 Percentile/ percent)

Category – II (Admission in top 300 QS Ranked US University)

  1. Satisfy the General Eligibility Criteria.
  2. Having GRE – General or HAT Score (Minimum 60 Percentile/ percent).
  3. Secure admission in one of top 300 QS World Ranked US University
  4. Total cost of study of the university shall not be more than USD 33,200/- P.A (Including Tuition and fee of USD 12,000/- P.A.)

Category – III (Admission along with complete tuition waiver)

  1. Satisfy the General Eligibility Criteria
  2. Secure admission along with complete tuition waiver. The waiver from the University shall be for the entire Ph.D. program.

Q. 8 What if tuition and fee of the University for Category – II Scholarship is more than USD 12,000/- Per Annum?

  1. Where total cost of study of the University is more than scholarship limit (USD 33,200/-) or tuition and fee is more than USD 12,000/- Per Annum, it is the sole responsibility of applicant to negotiate with the University for waiver/partial funding to reduce the cost to the scholarship limit offered by US – Pak Knowledge Corridor.

Q. 9 I have already submitted application. Do I need to apply afresh?

Yes

Q. 10 I have no admission offer from any specified US University. Can I apply?

Yes. those potential applicants who have valid GRE General Score of 308 or more in total may apply for further process. Such potential applicants must satisfy all other requirements.

Q. 11 I am eligible for category – III Scholarship by having secured admission along with tuition waiver. What next?

Those who satisfy all requirements for category – III Scholarship may apply any time but not later than May 30 for upcoming Fall Semester and September 30th for upcoming Spring Semester. Application complete in all respect must be submitted on or before the deadline. Incomplete applications (Including cases where relevant documents are not attached) or application submitted after the deadline shall not be entertained.

Q. 12 May I apply for Category – II (top 300 QS Ranked US University) Scholarship without having Admission offer/ tuition waiver confirmation?

Those who have applied in top 300 QS World Ranked US Universities but waiting for admission offer / tuition waiver confirmation, may apply to US – Pak Knowledge Corridor after "call for scholarship" is advertised to this effect. Application shall be submitted within the deadline mentioned in the advertisement and all pending documents shall be submitted to US – Pak Knowledge Corridor on or before May 30 for upcoming Fall Semester and September 30th t for upcoming Spring Semester. Documentary evidence of the reason for late submission must be provided. The reason must be compelling.

Q. 13 How to submit documents after submission of online application?

After submission of online application, applicant is required to send all relevant documents via email (shkosar@hec.gov.pk  OR  sahafeez@hec.gov.pk  ). Hard copies may be provided later when asked. Relevant documents mean all documents that are required for issuance of Provisional Award Letter (PAL)

Q. 14 What are the requirements for issuance of Provisional Award Letter (PAL)?

PAL shall be issued after following requirements are satisfied and relevant documents are submitted. Attestation of documents, wherever mentioned in this section, shall be made by Govt Officer in BPS 17 or above.

PAL For Category –I & II Scholarship (Admission in top 50 & 300 QS Ranked US University)

PAL requirement for Category – I & II Scholarship:

  1. General and specific eligibility criteria are satisfied
  2. Official Admission Letter
  3. Formal Letter from the University, stating total cost of study applicable to the applicant, if not clearly mentioned in official admission offer letter.
  4. Formal Letter from University, stating that the University/Professor will bear the cost of study, over and above the scholarship limit, for the entire scholarship period. This is required where cost of study of the University is more than the scholarship award offered by US – Pak Knowledge Corridor.
  5. Application form along with attested copies of educational documents/transcripts in soft/hard, claimed in Scholarship application form.
  6. Valid GRE – General Score Card and TOEFL Score Card/ HAT Score Card.
  7. Attested copy of CNIC, Passport and domicile certificate
  8. Research proposal for PHD degree accepted by relevant supervisor
  9. Updated Resume
  10. Contact detail of relevant person in University/Graduate School admission office and Supervisor (Email and Phone Number)
  11. Copy of Admission application submitted to relevant US University.

PAL For Category - III Scholarship

PAL requirement for Category – III Scholarship:

  1. General and specific eligibility criteria are satisfied
  2. Official Admission Letter along with complete tuition waiver for entire scholarship period.
  3. Application form along with attested copies of educational documents/transcripts in Soft/hard, claimed in Scholarship application form.
  4. Attested copy of CNIC, Passport, domicile certificate and three recent passport size photographs.
  5. Research proposal for PHD degree accepted by relevant supervisor
  6. Updated Resume
  7. Contact detail of relevant person in University/Graduate School admission office and Supervisor (Email and Phone Number).
  8. Copy of Admission application submitted to relevant US University.

Q. 15 Is TOEFL/GRE - General Compulsory for applying to US - Pak Knowledge Corridor?

GRE General is compulsory except for Category – III Scholarship. TOEFL is not compulsory but preferred.

Q. 16 Is IELTS acceptable?

TOEFL or IELTS are not the requirements of US – Pak Knowledge Corridor (USPKC - HEC) and therefore a prospective applicant can apply to USPKC (HEC) without either of these scores, provided he/she satisfy all other requirements. TOEFLE is considered as a plus point in some US Universities while in others TOEFL may be a condition for admission or tuition waiver. However some Universities may sometime accept IELTS as a substitute for TOEFL.

Q. 17 What is Talent Farming?

Those who aspires for Ph.D. scholarships under US – Pak Knowledge Corridor are trained under Talent Farming component of the project. The training is offered in GRE- General etc.

Q. 18 How can I join the training?

Offer for training is generally advertised on HEC website and official social networks such as Facebook and twitter etc. and the potential applicants are asked to apply online on HEC website. However, sometimes, public sector universities are contacted directly for their nominations of potential participants (students and non- PHD faculty) for the training.

Q. 19 Who is eligible for the training?

 Those who satisfy all the following requirements are eligible.

  1. Those who are otherwise eligible for Ph.D scholarship under US – Pak Knowledge Corridor (Please read FAQs)
  2. Maximum age shall not exceed 33 years on the closing date of offer for training. However, in case of non- Ph.D. faculty of public sector Universities and researchers of approved R & D organizations, maximum age for participation in training shall not exceed 38 years.

Q. 20 What are the benefits of participation in training(s)?

  1. GRE – General is a pre-requisite for the scholarship and for admission and/or tuition waiver in most US Universities
  2. TOEFL/IELTS is considered as a plus point for admission and/or tuition waiver in US Universities
  3. The trainings are offered at very subsidized rates by professional trainers/ Resource persons.

Q. 21 How to contact US – Pak Knowledge Corridor?

This office may be reached via official email ID regarding any query or information. In very rare cases, where email is not responded within reasonable time and the matter is urgent, phone call may be entertained. Personal visits are discouraged.
