The purpose of HEC Research Awards is to recognize and reward excellence in research, contributions to intellectual development, and social welfare and promote publications with higher impact. The potential awardees under this category will be the researchers who have contributed the most to intellectual and social development through their writings (i.e., not simply through their formal titles or positions). As such, while this is an award for a lifetime of achievement rather than a single publication or contribution, it does not preclude recognizing a single publication with a huge impact. On the other hand, the lifetime of achievement should be characterized by outstanding publications with demonstrated major impact.<br></p><p><strong>b) Best Young Researcher (A cash prize of Rs. 500,000/-)</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Best Researcher Award is presented to the early researcher under the age of 40, who is judged by the scientific panels to show the most promise of stimulating further research, addressing or resolving social problems, and enhancing the quality of research in Pakistan. The objective of this award is to recognize both the contribution and future potential of early-career researchers in terms of their research and publications. Here, too, selection should place due weight on particular outstanding and impactful discoveries and publications.<br></p><p><strong>c) Best Publication (A cash prize of Rs. 1,000,000/-)</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Best Publication is awarded to the publication i.e., book or journal article, that is judged by the scientific panels as likely to produce the greatest impact on human welfare, either by stimulating and opening up new areas of further research or by contributing to the resolution of a critical problem facing Pakistan and the world at large. It is envisioned as the premier institution for quality research and teaching related to all aspects of higher education in Pakistan. To this end, it aims to:</p><ul style="text-align:justify;"><li>Provide a learning environment in which faculty, staff and participants can collaboratively develop, critically examine, preserve and share knowledge and values that constitute the discipline of education in its broadest sense.</li><li>Attract and serve individuals from diverse social, economic and ethnic backgrounds, with particular responsiveness to groups that have been underserved by higher education.</li><li>Prepare competent and caring educators and educational administrators who can balance content knowledge and practice with an understanding of the students and communities they serve, and develop professionally to become ethical and effective decision-makers and leaders.</li><li>Create members of a global community of teachers/scholars who conduct research and serve as educators, administrators, policy makers, and leaders in higher education.</li></ul><p style="text-align:justify;">In order to fulfil this mission, the Academy will provide multifaceted courses, workshops, certifications and degrees for HE faculty and staff at different stages of their careers. Whether general, need-based or customised, these offerings will address teaching practice, research methodology, administrative and leadership skills, educational management, as well as socio-culturally-/linguistically-specific topics and conventional professional development domains within the ambit of HE.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Conducting and promoting research on higher education will be an integral aspect of all NAHE's activities so that it can function as a dynamic and reflexive institution. This, in turn, will allow it to address the need to set benchmarks for quality across different spheres of academics and HEIs through evidence-based interventions and programmes.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">NAHE will support the establishment of centres or programmes focusing on capacity building of faculty and management of HEIs by building strategic and sustainable partnerships with international HEIs. The Modern University Governance Program for University ManagementThe Modern University Governance Program for University Management<p style="text-align:justify;">The Modern University Governance Program for University Management (MUG) aims to equip university management with the latest governance tools, and to bridge the gap between management and academia.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The first activity was held for the top management of the universities when LID and AIT Bangkok jointly conducted the first-ever two-week workshop on Good Governance for 21st Century from 22nd May –June 01, 2007. The workshop focused on good governance models and holistic strategic management principles, and was attended by 12 university VCs and two senior registrars. The workshop also included visits and meetings at leading Thai universities and technology parks, and related research organizations. During the visit, further MOUs were signed between individual universities and VCs of Pakistan.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Following the success of the program, the HEC decided with the support of all heads of HEIs to start a regular in-service program titled Modern University Governance Program for University Management (MUG) for all tiers of university management.  Since then, LID has been implementing activities at regular intervals according to the following framework:</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Main activities of MUG program are:</p><ol><li>Orientation Leadership Training Program for Newly Inducted Vice Chancellor HEIs of Pakistan</li><li>Leadership Training Program for Newly Inducted Vice Chancellor HEIs of Pakistan</li><li>Leadership Training Program for Senior Management HEIs of Pakistan</li><li>Strategic Management Workshops for Senior Management HEIs of Pakistan<span style="text-decoration:underline;"> </span><br><br> </li></ol><p style="text-align:justify;">The staff trainings are designed to equip university management with an understanding of generic and specified areas such as:</p><ul><li>Good governance models, tools and techniques</li><li>Principles of management</li><li>Leadership and management</li><li>Strategic management and policy planning, implementation and evaluation</li><li>Public policy</li><li>Monitoring and evaluation</li><li>Principals of audit and accounting</li><li>Financial management</li><li>Project management </li><li>PMBOK international modules</li><li>Ethics and corporate /social responsibility etc</li><li>Professional communication</li><li>Media advocacy</li><li>Proficiency in English for professional settings</li><li>Effective use of ICT in professional environment</li><li>Emotional intelligence (EQ vs IQ)</li><li>Time and stress management</li><li>Problem solving and decision making</li><li>Result based management</li></ul><p style="text-align:justify;">​​​How can universities conduct the program?</p><p style="text-align:justify;">This program is ideal for university management as well as faculty members who are working on management-related tasks by their respective universities. To enrich the learning process, LID arranges skilled resource persons, who share their experience and knowledge gathered from the latest academic content and research. Our program also provides excellent networking opportunities with faculty members from all over the country. We also introduced a video conferencing facility to our program if required for national and international dialogues and seminars.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The MUG Program is conducted both by HEC as well as sponsored by LID to be arranged at the doorsteps of universities. HEC Distinguished National ProfessorsHEC Distinguished National Professors<p style="text-align:justify;">HEC has been acknowledging achievements of the eminent professors in the country and enabling continued utilization of their services in national organizations through the Distinguished National Professor (DNP) program, since 2003. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Recently, the existing framework of the program has been reviewed with an aim to create a more meaningful impact of the program i.e. improved academic quality. Emphasis has been given to increase the tenure of the selected distinguished professors and the eligibility criteria and evaluation parameters have been revised with the purpose to establish that the nominee is a person of international eminence and that he or she is active in their field and would be able to make significant contributions to the educational vision of the university.</p><p style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong class="ms-rteFontSize-3">Purpose and Principles</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">For the purposes of recognizing the achievements of outstanding academicians and researchers, and for enabling the continued utilization of their services in national organizations, the title of Distinguished National Professor (DNP) shall be awarded to scholars who are leaders in their respective fields and who have made significant contributions to their academic disciplines at national and international level. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">DNP is a prestigious title and an exceptional honor, which shall be awarded solely on the basis of merit as assessed against prescribed eligibility criteria and upon the recommendation of a high level selection committee constituted by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).</p><p style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong class="ms-rteFontSize-2" style="text-decoration:underline;">Evaluation Criteria</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Candidates shall be evaluated on their excellence in teaching, research, academic leadership, and contributions at national and international levels. Emphasis would be placed on quality and impact, rather than quantity. English Language Teaching Reforms ProjectEnglish Language Teaching Reforms Project<p>​</p><p style="text-align:justify;">In order to bring qualitative improvement in English Language Teaching and Learning Higher Education Commission in 2004 launched first ever exclusive language based project titled as English Language Teaching Reforms (ELTR). This project aims at building the capacity of English Language Teachers in higher education sector in Pakistan for effective and sustainable development. The project is the part of overall vision of prospective plan 2020 and pertains to human resource development in English Language Teaching and research in Higher Education. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">After successful phase I which catered <strong>1398 </strong>teachers of colleges and universities, the ELTR launched its Phase II in 2010. HEC Research Travel GrantHEC Research Travel Grant<p style="text-align:justify;">Academic events are significant for professional development of researchers and scholars. They serve as a source for guidance, exposure, knowledge sharing, developing linkages, and problem solving. Academic Conferences, Seminars and Symposia provide opportunities for academicians to help understand the latest developments in their field and validate research findings, while creating opportunities for future academic collaborations.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">Such events are the cornerstone of the academic environment. To cultivate this environment, the Higher Education Commission has set up a special Research Travel Grant Fund for University faculty, PhD scholars, and MS students at Pakistani Universities.
